Nauli Kriya is a dynamic and advanced yogic cleansing technique (Shatkarma) primarily aimed at massaging and toning the abdominal organs. It involves isolating and rotating the abdominal muscles, enhancing digestion, stimulating internal organs, and improving overall health.

How Nauli Kriya Works
Nauli involves a series of abdominal movements where the rectus abdominis muscles are controlled and manipulated in various directions. It is a highly beneficial practice for digestion and internal cleansing.
Steps to Perform Nauli Kriya
Start with Uddiyana Bandha
Stand up straight with feet hip-width apart and hands resting on the thighs.
Inhale deeply and then exhale completely, emptying your lungs fully.
After exhalation, draw your abdomen toward the spine (this is Uddiyana Bandha).
Hold this position without breathing in.
Create the Nauli Isolation
With Uddiyana Bandha engaged, the muscles of the abdomen are contracted to bring the central part of the abdominal muscles forward. This is called Madhyana Nauli (central isolation).
Move the Abdominal Muscles
Right isolation (Dakshina Nauli): Shift the abdominal muscles to the right side.
Left isolation (Vama Nauli): Shift the abdominal muscles to the left side.
Perform Nauli Rotation
Once you have control over the isolation of the muscles, begin rotating the abdominal muscles in a circular motion, from left to right and then right to left. This is the actual Nauli movement.
The practice can be done either clockwise or counterclockwise.
Release and Relax
After a few rounds, gently release Uddiyana Bandha, inhale, and return to a normal standing posture.
Benefits of Nauli Kriya
Improves digestion: Stimulates digestive organs and helps in reducing issues like indigestion, bloating, and constipation.
Tones abdominal muscles: Strengthens and tones the core muscles, giving the abdomen a toned appearance.
Balances internal energy: Helps to balance the energy centers (chakras), particularly the solar plexus (Manipura Chakra).
Cleanses the intestines: Helps remove toxins and waste from the digestive system, supporting better overall health.
Stimulates the nervous system: Improves nervous system function, helping to regulate the body's internal processes.
Helps with emotional balance: It can improve self-control, willpower, and emotional regulation by stimulating the Manipura Chakra.
Precautions
Do not practice on a full stomach: It's best to practice Nauli Kriya early in the morning on an empty stomach.
Avoid if you have certain conditions: People with hernias, heart disease, hypertension, ulcers, or serious digestive issues should avoid Nauli or practice under expert guidance.
Start slowly: Nauli Kriya requires practice and patience. It's important to master the Uddiyana Bandha before moving to Nauli.
Nauli Kriya is an advanced technique and should ideally be learned under the guidance of a qualified yoga teacher to ensure proper technique and safety.
